Paphos has the longest coastline of any region in Cyprus, allowing for a plethora of beautiful beaches and seafront properties for sale in Cyprus. The most remote and wild stretches hug the Akamas Peninsula, where the sea turtles nest and you will find golden sandy beaches with tranquil turquoise waters.
The island's climate is the subtropical Mediterranean, with scorching summers and mild, rainy winters. Cyprus has between 300 and 340 sunshine days each year. The average temperature in the winter is 13-15 °C, and in the summer it is 30-33 °C. The climate of Cyprus is regarded as one of the healthiest in the world.
It's the ideal location for beachgoers.
The following are the top five beaches in Paphos, ranging from electric-blue bays to sheltered shallows and private paradises.
The best for relaxing in Cypriot luxury - Maniki Beach
Maniki beach is the private beachfront of the luxury hotel & Resort, Cap St Georges.
With turquoise-blue waters and golden sand immersed with lush botanical greenery, one can truly relax in comfort and luxury while having the hotel cater to your every whim.
A 5-star restaurant accompanied by a bar is a few steps away at the magical resort of Cap St George, making this beach a must-see for anyone visiting Cyprus.
Maniki Beach is unique in terms of both its natural environment and its history. Every year, thousands of visitors from all over the world visit, leaving them with unforgettable memories.
The University of New York archaeological team conducted underwater investigations in the Maniki area, south of Agios Georgios.
From the Hellenistic to the Early Christian periods, this ancient port was the main port for the ancient settlement of Agios Georgios and Geronisos. This region has been studied by several archaeologists and scientists, including a team from the University of Haifa's Leon Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies.
The best for swimming - Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon is a large pool of calm, clear teal water. Fortunately for all of us, it is only accessible by 4WD or boat, which keeps the masses at bay. If you don't want to deal with the bumpy ride down a long dirt road, take a boat trip from the harbour at Latchi, for an amazing experience on the perfect waters – one of our favourite things in Paphos. You can jump off the deck into the warm water before returning to the ship to sunbathe and enjoy your time sipping cocktails and enjoying local delicacies.
The best for families - Coral Bay
If you want to spend your next vacation on the island of Cyprus, you should put Coral Bay on your bucket list. The gorgeous beach there makes this corner of the island state in the Mediterranean Sea a travel destination in a class of its own.
This horseshoe-shaped cove is six kilometres north of Paphos Town on Cyprus's west coast. The bay is protected by steep limestone cliffs, making it safe for swimming. Water skiing and diving are among the water sports available, as are inflatables for children. The beach, lined with restaurants and bars, is dotted with thatched parasols and sunbeds. It's one of Paphos' best beaches for kids. While it is quieter outside of peak season, it is possible to stake a claim on a patch of sand even in the summer.
What makes this beach so special?
The Coral Bay coastline, in particular, lends a dreamlike quality to this location in southwest Cyprus. There are numerous sea caves and rocky headlands to the north and south of this stretch of beach near Paphos.
Coral Bay resembles a 600-meter-long crescent. The sand on the beach is soft and white. Imagine walking barefoot on it and feeling the sand between your toes!
What's the best part? The EU has awarded the Blue Flag to the entire Coral Bay beach. This means that it meets all of the standards established by the EU's relevant committee.
What is the best time to visit Coral Bay?
Cyprus has a typical Mediterranean climate, expect hot, dry summers and mild winters. August is the warmest month, with average temperatures ranging from 23 to 32 °C.
If sunbathing is your primary goal, the months of June to October are ideal. During this time of year, the sun shines brightly and the temperatures are delightfully warm.
You can also visit Coral Bay in the winter. However, don't expect to be able to swim here. Nonetheless, temperatures remain pleasant, ranging from 9 to 17 degrees Celsius.
The best for wildlife spotting - Lara Bay
Lara Bay is a remote sliver of land accessible only by 4WD further north along the coast. It's one of Paphos' best beaches for natural wonders: from May to August, this untouched beauty provides an ideal habitat for nesting loggerhead and green turtles. While visitors are not permitted to disturb the animals or the nests, the Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station welcomes visitors who want to see rescued hatchlings paddling around in large tanks and learn about its environmental stewardship.
Besides the clean waters of the sea, you can also enjoy the white sand with the coloured stones, the wild environment, the fantastic geology, the botanic and the fauna.
Lara Beach is a safe place for loggerhead and green turtles due to its white sand and protective horseshoe shape. Visit between May and August for a chance to see the turtles arriving on the beach to lay their eggs.
To help prevent these species from becoming extinct, a conservation station has been set up where ecologists are working tirelessly to boost population numbers. Far from the busier areas of Cyprus, the Conservation Station is a small cabin overlooking a beach of aluminium cages that have been put down to protect turtle eggs from predators.
There are no facilities or toilets at the beach.
The best to experience Greek Mythology & Legends - Petra Tou Romiou
If you ask anyone what to do in Paphos, they’re likely to say visit Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra Tou Romiou). According to legend, the Greek goddess of love and beauty rose from the sea and came ashore here. It’s believed that if you swim around the rock three times, you’ll be blessed by eternal beauty – although the turbulent sea prohibits this. The pebbly beach overlooks the picturesque stack jutting out of the Mediterranean, best appreciated at sunset. The views are great from the café here too.
